Worship

Sunday Worship: 11:00 AM

The style of worship at Summit UMC is fairly traditional, though informal. We begin each Sunday with a few praise songs, and announcements are projected on a large screen in the front of the Sanctuary, as are the words to hymn tunes, Scriptures, etc.

You will be welcome in worship at any time just as you are, without worrying about dress code or the need to meet expectations of others. We hope to greet newcomers with warmth and sincere hospitality without smothering them or putting them in the spotlight. We use the United Methodist Hymnal and a newer worship resource called The Faith We Sing, which has many fine contemporary hymns as well as some old standards not found in the hymnal.

Our choir provides special music September through May, and soloists and other groups fill in during the summer. There is a time for children in each worship service, and we encourage young at heart of all ages to participate in this special time. Nursery care is provided for very young children throughout the Sunday morning schedule.

Special services are provided at high holy day times like Christmas and Easter, with a Christmas Eve service for families at 7:00 PM. Ash Wednesday is observed each year to begin the Lenten season. During Holy Week, just before Easter, there are services or special activities on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Some years we have joined with Lakewood UMC for a joint Christmas Cantata, with both choirs singing at each church on alternate Sundays. We also have special Thanksgiving Eve services with a group called East Pierce County Circuit (EPCC), a cluster of ten United Methodist congregations in our area that share common mission goals and hopes for the future.

A joint Confirmation class for youth is also held every other year by EPCC, which allows a larger group and sharing of leadership.

We also observe those special times of both great joy and great sorrow in our families as we celebrate weddings and hold memorial observances from time to time.

All people of the community are always welcome at any of our worship times or any other church activities.
